An abundance has been written in the press recently concerning the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in England. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However can the internet adaptation of this quintessential game offer a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo has been an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people deciding to go to the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law throughout UK.
Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is literally struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cig and still enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left many bingo players with no option.
