Might the Cigarette Ban in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Net?

An abundance has been talked in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax breaks to help keep the businesses afloat. But will the online variation of this traditional game offer a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its real life relative?

Bingo has been an enduring game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people opting to visit the bingo halls rather than the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the smoking ban around UK.

No more will players be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common areas where people enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Players have dropped and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t deserted this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can play bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and smoke and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the internet can never replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little alternative.

Like any other gambling game where stakes are high, this increased excitement has its own genuine portion of positive and negative impact on the gamblers.

Bingo- The Anxiety Magnet

The anticipation associated with a night of bingo can drive a person to the other end of the spectrum. Getting too engrossed in the game, your excitement level might change; this possibly could have a negative outcome on those who suffer from high blood pressure or cardiac problems. Some studies indicate, individuals who play bingo are prone to get easily agitated and accordingly have elevated stress levels. It has been observed that employment related stress is a whole lot less than the stress created while competing in bingo. There have been several cases of people having been fired their place of work because of bingo-related stress impacting their proficiency at work.

In spite of the previously stated risks, bingo can still be a wonderful anxiety-buster if players acknowledge that it is only a game, take care of their well-being and control their actions.

Bingo in New Mexico

[ English ]

New Mexico has a rocky gaming background. When the IGRA was signed by Congress in 1989, it looked like New Mexico would be one of the states to cash in on the Native casino craze. Politics assured that would not be the case.

The New Mexico governor Bruce King announced a task force in Nineteen Ninety to draft a contract with New Mexico Indian bands. When the panel arrived at an agreement with two big local tribes a year later, Governor King declined to sign the agreement. He held up a deal until Nineteen Ninety Four.

When a new governor took over in 1995, it appeared that Amerindian betting in New Mexico was a certainty. But when the new Governor signed the compact with the Indian tribes, anti-gambling groups were able to hold the accord up in the courts. A New Mexico court ruled that the Governor had out stepped his bounds in signing the accord, therefore denying the government of New Mexico many hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing fees over the next several years.

It took the CNA, passed by the New Mexico legislature, to get the process moving on a full compact amongst the State of New Mexico and its Native bands. A decade had been lost for gambling in New Mexico, including Amerindian casino Bingo.

The non-profit Bingo industry has increased since Nineteen Ninety-Nine. In that year, New Mexico non-profit game operators brought in only $3,048. This number grew to $725,150 in 2000, and exceeded one million dollars in revenues in 2001. Not for profit Bingo revenues have increased constantly since that time. 2005 witnessed the greatest year, with $1,233,289 earned by the owners.

Bingo is categorically popular in New Mexico. All types of operators look for a piece of the pie. Hopefully, the politicos are done batting over gaming as a hot button matter like they did back in the 90’s. That’s most likely hopeful thinking.

Might the Cigarette Ban in the United Kingdom Take Bingo Players Online?

Much has been talked in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the online variation of this traditional game present a reprieve, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban all over Britain.

No longer will gamblers be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlours. Players have dropped and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Surely they have not forgotten this established game?

The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course playing on the internet will never replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
