A lot has been talked in the press recently concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However will the net version of this classic game present a escape, or will it never compare to its land based relative?
Bingo has been an established game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the anti smoking law across England and Wales.
No longer will gamblers be permitted to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common places where players enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t cast aside this familiar game?
The answer is on the net. Players are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course betting on on the internet can never replace the social portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
