Will the Smoking Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Players Online?

A lot has been talked in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a result of the cigarette ban in the UK. Conditions have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to assist in keeping the industry alive. But will the internet version of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it not compare to its real life kin?

Bingo has been an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the anti smoking law around Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Players have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this established game?

The answer is on the net. Players realise that they can gamble on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective part of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the law has left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
