An abundance has been reported in the press recently concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax breaks to help keep the businesses afloat. But will the internet version of this traditional game provide a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?
Bingo is an familiar game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the cigarette ban across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is online. People are now realizing that they can wager on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cig and still enjoy monstrous jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the net could never replace the communal portion of going down to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the law has left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
