Could the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

[ English ]

Much has been written in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the internet adaptation of this classic game provide a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based relative?

Bingo has been an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had undergone a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti smoking law across UK.

Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where many people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo parlors. Players have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not abandoned this age old game?

The answer is online. Gamblers realize that they can wager on bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course wagering on on the web will never replace the communal part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
