Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That’s owing to the fact that the Native tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for ages. Guests from many of the neighboring states load up in vans and head over to Oklahoma to play Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) followed a precedent setting determination by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. From that instance, twenty three of the 39 Indian tribes of Oklahoma have opened gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the gambling laws, and today operate 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were built on. automated games like one armed bandits weren’t authorized, since they are thought to contribute to gambling problems more than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules have altered to allow for large American Indian gambling gambling dens. You’ll now see Indian casinos with slot machine games, video poker and vingt-et-un tables. Craps and roulette are not allowed in the Native casinos yet, although that is only a waiting game. Nobody can determine whether having other games in the bingo houses will do for the draw of bingo.
