Can the Cigarette Ban in Britain Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

[ English ]

Much has been reported in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt because of the cigarette ban in England. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But can the web adaptation of this classic game present a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an ancient game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent return in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the cigarette ban across Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo parlours. Players have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they have not forgotten this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realize that they can wager on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course wagering on on the net is unlikely to replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
