Might the Anti Smoking Law in England Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been stated in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the internet version of this classic game offer a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo has been an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent return in appeal with younger people opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the enacting of the anti smoking law throughout UK.

Players will no longer be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored locations where players like to smoke.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Certainly they haven’t abandoned this classic game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers are now realizing that they can participate in bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cig and still enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
