Could the Smoking Ban in the United Kingdom Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

Much has been written in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry alive. But does the internet version of this quintessential game provide a lifeline, or will it never compare to its real life kin?

Bingo is an age old game usually played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game recently had undergone a recent return in popularity with younger people opting to go to the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the anti smoking law across UK.

No longer will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public location will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular locations where players like to smoke.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo halls. Profits have dropped and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can bet on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, have a chance at monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the social portion of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with no option.
