Will the Cigarette Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

A lot has been written in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses alive. However does the web version of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or might it not compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo has been an age old game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls instead of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti smoking law all over United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored places where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they haven’t forgotten this age old game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can wager on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
