Might the Cigarette Ban in the UK Drive Bingo Players On to the Net?

Much has been stated in the papers recently about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But can the web adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its real life relative?

Bingo has been an enduring game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law all over Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where many people like to smoke.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Surely they have not abandoned this ancient game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers know that they can wager on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy big prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course wagering on on the net could never replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the rules have left many bingo players with little option.
